Postbachelors Curriculum

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. I need to work full time. How can I do the PB program?
We do not have an alternative program for individuals who need to work during the day. We are in the process of developing one. If you are interested, please email Dr. McHenry at mmchenry@uh.edu and she will contact you when the alternative program is available.

  2. Will it shorten my PB program if I start in the spring semester?
No. Classes are very tightly sequenced. All the course you take in the fall semester are pre-requisites for the spring semester courses. If you do not wish to take the full course load, a two-year PB option is available.

  3. Will I get another Bachelor’s degree when I complete the PB program?
No. The PB program is designed to offer pre-requisites to graduate school admission. It is a non-degree program.

  4. Is financial aid available for PB students?
Yes. See the financial aid section of this website.

  5. What application form do I use to apply to the PB program?
The version of the Texas Common Application that you use is called “Transfer or transient”.

  6. Do I apply to the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders to attend the PB program?
No. You are applying for general admission to the university.

  7. What are the requirements for acceptance into the PB program?
There are none. It is general admission to the university. Your progress will be carefully monitored, however, to be sure you meet the minimum requirements for consideration in the graduate program. We recommend that you do not consider the PB program is your undergraduate GPA is less than 3.0.

  8. What is the deadline for application to the PB program?
May 1 of the year you wish to begin.

  9. Why am I not accepted into the graduate program when I begin the PB program?
One reason is financial. You would be paying graduate credit fees for undergraduate courses. Another reason is that we need to be able to assess your ability to do the coursework in the Communication Sciences and Disorders major before admission to the graduate program.

If you have any further questions, you may contact the PB advisor, Dr. Monica McHenry by email or phone at 713-743-5503.
