COMD 6321: Dysphagia
This course is the study of swallowing disorders in all age groups from newborns to the elderly that result from a variety of medical conditions. An in depth review of the literature will include prefeeding skills of infants as well as the disorders of deglutition and aging. Students will learn to evaluate radiographic examinations, make recommendations based on the instrumental examination, and the various types of behavioral and rehabilitation treatment for oropharyngeal dysphagia.

COMD 6326: Motor Speech Disorders Disorders
Assessment and management of motor speech disorders in adults, including apraxia of speech and degenerative neurological disorders; physiological systems contributing to reduced intelligibility; and differential diagnosis of the dysarthrias. Review and application of evidence-based treatment.

COMD 6328: Acquired Cognitive Disorders
The purposes of this course are to (1) describe acquired cognitive disorders in adults including those associated with traumatic brain injury, right hemisphere brain damage and dementia; (2) describe the role of speech-language pathologists in the assessment and treatment of these disorders; (3) describe normal cognitive changes associated with the aging process.

COMD 6334: Aphasia
This course will provide graduate students with the knowledge base required for the assessment, management and treatment of acquired language and related disorders in adults. The curriculum will include a brief review of the neuroanatomy related to speech and language, methods of evaluation and diagnosis of acquired disorders in adults including aphasia, alexia, agraphia, agnosia and limb apraxia as well as methods of rehabilitation and management of these disorders.

COMD 6361: Research Methodology in Speech Pathology and Audiology
Bases and techniques of experimentation in speech pathology and audiology. Emphasis on critical evaluation of evidence to support treatment of speech/language disorders.

COMD 6372: Remediation of Childhood Language Disorders
The purposes of this course are: to present information regarding various approaches to language assessment, including syntax, discourse, cognition; and socio-communicative behaviors; provide information regarding intervention in the same areas and to enable students to apply these approaches to specific language intervention goals; and discuss specific intervention applications for children with autism.

Evaluation and management of vocal disorders including etiology, assessment, and treatment strategies. Emphasis on review and application of evidence-based treatment.

COMD 7321: Fluency
This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the nature, assessment and treatment of fluency disorders in children and adults. In addition, prevention and cultural considerations will be addressed. During this course the student will participate in practical learning activities intended to prepare you to appropriately assess/diagnose fluency disorders and plan treatment programs for children and adults who stutter.
